In the 1920s, silent film comedy was a major trend in American cinema. The silent film format gave itself to slapstick and gag-based humour because visual gags could be clearly recognized and crossed language barriers. In America in the 1920s films would appeal to the working class and immigrants this was because easily understood by everyone, as it was silent even people who dint speak English would watch it. The cultural contexts in which the four Buster Keaton short films I studied were made reflect the cultural contexts in which these American Silent Film comedies were created. The grandmother is a very simple narrative structure, it is a linear story about a boy who hates his family as they are abusive to him so he decided to grow a grandmother from this bed, but she later dies. my film is going to be experimental but will have a linear structure. there is no dialogue throughout the short film but it uses noises and music to create suspense throughout the story, i plan to have some dialogue in my short film but i will be using sound effects and music to create suspense throughout the narrative. the mise-en-scene is black and white, i plan to make my short film black and white like the grandmother, the mise-en-scene is simple with not a lot of props, i plan to have my short film like this as it creates mystery and focuses the audience onto the characters more. The family dinner table scene shows suspense through using the sound, as we hear an argument with no spoken words, it is creepy for the viewer as we feel the characters emotions. Another short film, Mes...
