evaluative analysis

The grandmother is a very simple narrative structure, it is a linear story about a boy who hates his family as they are abusive to him so he decided to grow a grandmother from this bed, but she later dies. my film is going to be experimental but will have a linear structure. there is no dialogue throughout the short film but it uses noises and music to create suspense throughout the story, i plan to have some dialogue in my short film but i will be using sound effects and music to create suspense throughout the narrative. the mise-en-scene is black and white, i plan to make my short film black and white like the grandmother, the mise-en-scene is simple with not a lot of props, i plan to have my short film like this as it creates mystery and focuses the audience onto the characters more. The family dinner table scene shows suspense through using the sound, as we hear an argument with no spoken words, it is creepy for the viewer as we feel the characters emotions. Another short film, Meshes Of The Afternoon is an experiment film with a complex narrative structure, it tells the story of a murder but is told in a non linear way. there is no dialogue in this short film, there is a focus on sounds and music to create mystery and suspense in the short film. the mise-en-scene is complex as the room moves about, it is filmed in black and white, this is what i plan to have for my short film too as it makes it look more creepy and grainy.

A short film that has influence my short film is possibly in Michigan, the short film uses high key lighting i plan to use this in my short film however mise-en-scene is going to be black and white my , it also has a vhs effect over it and i plan to film my short film with a vhs camera as it looks grainy. another reason it has influenced me is the because of the cutaways and replaying clips in my short film i am going to have cutaways to stuff being destroyed and replaying clips to add to the creepiness and to confuse the audience. i am also going to have music that is going to be upbeat to throw off the audience, the setting is going to be 1980, this is because possibly in Michigan does this and it is filmed in 1983. my characters voice pitches are going to be going up and down again this is used in possibly in Michigan. Another short film that has influenced me is Dining Room, this is an experimental short film, the reason that it has influenced me is because of the mise-en-scene, it is set in a dining table for the whole film, i plan to have my short film set in a dining room. i will be using the camera movement from Dinning Room as it is a slow zoom in onto the character i plan to use this at the end off my short film to show the corpse.

in my script creates mystery at the ending as the audience are left asking questions about who killed the father, David lynch does this in the grandmother to create mystery with the grandmother throughout the whole film we wonder if she is real as she is very mysterious and is never seen my the father or the mother. i also create mystery with my cutaways as they are random and do not link in with the story it makes the spectator confused, David lynch does this at the start of the film as he has his art in it, it is random and confuses the audience as it does make any sense. my script creates meaning with the audiences as you have to watch it multiple times to understand it as you will miss out on your first time watching, David lynch does this as you have to watch the grandmother multiple times to create your own meaning off it as it is mysterious and creepy. the lighting in my short film is going to get darker over time as it shows the audience the film is slowly getting creepier as it goes on, the lighting in the grandmother is dark, this is to shows that the film is dark and is creepy. the end off my film creates response as so many questions are left unanswered and it is very unsettling as the voices getting deeper and the lack of the narrative makes the question who killed the father, this is used in possibly in Michigan as the voices get deeper and higher, there is also a lack off narrative in the grandmother, this creates a lot of questions from the audience.
